Magnet Programs
iCan Academy - Whole School Magnet
The Integrated Career and Academic Networks (ICAN) magnet program provides students with a unique opportunity to participated in project-based learning, develop workplace & technology skills, and engage in mentoring by network advisers from business industries, colleges, and universities.
Computer Engineering Program
Students use state-of-the-art equipment to learn about careers in computer science and computer engineering. They will also earn computer coding, gaming programming, corporate computer applications, software design, and presentation skills. Students practice professional leadership skills to gain a competitive advantage in today's economy.
Information Technology Program
This program starts with an introductory computer course, which offers students both fundamental computer concepts and advanced training in Adobe Premier Applications. Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) certification course is also offered as part of our magnet enrichment. Students will learn how to transform themselves from being users of technology to creators of technology.
Communications Program
Students learn the many aspects of television and broadcast journalism by taking production courses. They will learn how to write and produce public service announcements by exploring videography, and voice over narration writing. Students will also learn video editing to create short story elements, how to write informative news stories, and the operation of television studio equipment.
Innovative Programs
Accelerated Learning Program
Our Accelerated Program combines the strengths of the GEARS and GEM programs to offer a dynamic and enriching academic experience.
- The GEARS and GEM components—Gifted Education and Academic Resource Services and Gifted Education in Mathematics—provide targeted support and enrichment for gifted learners, fostering creativity, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
Our programs challenge students to reach their full potential and prepare them for advanced academic opportunities and lifelong success.
Specialized Programs
VE Program
Our VE (Varying Exceptionalities) program is designed to provide Education to students with diverse learning needs and challenges, taught in General Education Standards through:
- direct specialized instruction in Language Arts, Math, Social Studies, Science
- direct specialized instruction in behavior and social skills
- paraprofessional assistance for most of the academic time,
- unique accommodations,
- support facilitation services for independent and self-advocacy skills development,
- small group classes (8-15)
- participation in a variety of Electives classes (based on student’s interest), with paraprofessional support.
Dual certified teachers in General Education Academic Areas and Exceptional Student Education plan activities and provide instruction that promote academic, social, and emotional growth.
We offer a combination of specialized strategies, modified curriculum and inclusive practices for 6, 7, and 8 grade levels. We are the promotors of Multiple Intelligences Theory approach. Our educators differentiate instruction based on our students learning style (visual, tactile, auditory, and other senses) and believe that our students can reach the fullest potential in our program, while developing creativity, confidence, and independence… the pathway for success.
SVE Program
Our SVE (Specific Varied Exceptionalities) program is designed to provide education to students with severe and profound disabilities and taught in Access Points Standards.
Our Exceptional Student Education certified teachers promote development of academic, social, emotional, communication, and independent skills through:
